Ol Parker

"Ol Parker has something of Jane Austen's cool, merciless eye"
- Independent Weekend

Ol is currently adapting Jenny Downham’s astounding novel BEFORE I DIE as NOW IS GOOD for Blueprint Pictures/Film Four/Pathe.

His adaptation of Deborah Moggach’s THESE FOOLISH THINGS; THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL will shoot later this year with a stellar cast.

Ol is also working with Tom Hanks and Walter Parkes on COMRADE ROCK STAR, recently delivered.

Ol's first feature as writer-director IMAGINE ME AND YOU shot in London in November 2004 with Cougar Films/Fragile Films/Ealing Studios/BBC Films and premiered at the Toronto Film Festival 2005. Starring Lena Headey, Piper Perabo and Matthew Goode the film was released in June 2006 http://www.paramountpictures.co.uk/imaginemeandyou/

Ol's previous work includes work on the adaptation of Sebastian Faulkes' novel BIRDSONG for Working Title Films, and CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC, the Jimi Hendrix biopic, for director Paul Greengrass.  He re-wrote ADIOS for Little Bird (Thaddeus O’Sullivan to direct); and adapted Pat Barker's novel THE EYE IN THE DOOR for Jonathan Demme/USA. He has written DIABOLICAL LIBERTIES, a three-part television drama for Parallax/Channel 4 and created the series PARKLIFE for Cougar Films.

The Sundance Festival '96 changed its ruling on made-for-TV films in order to invite Ol's BBC film LOVED UP, to participate. The film, directed by Peter Cattaneo, about Ecstasy and youth culture, transmitted as part of the Love Bites season amid a blaze of publicity:

"The youthiest hippest thing to happen on film since 'A Hard Day's Night'"
- Time Out

"that rare thing: a youth culture film that works"
- The Guardian

"a bloody great story"
- New Musical Express

His second film, IN YOUR DREAMS, another BBC commission this time dealing with date rape, was broadcast in December '97 starring Thandie Newton.

His first feature, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT (freely adapted from Jeremy Cameron's novel) was directed by Metin Huseyin and starred Thandie Newton and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Ol graduated from Cambridge University in 1991 and his career was launched in Edinburgh in 1991 with a two-hander KILLERS:

"some of the elliptical menace of the early Pinter...lethally funny"
- Michael Billington, The Guardian

In May 1992 KILLERS was performed in a double bill with Ol's short play GET UP AND BE SOMEBODY as part of the "Laughing Gas" season of comedy at the Brighton Festival.

Ol is represented by Charlotte Knight and in the US by Julian Thuan at UTA and managed by Eryn Brown.
