Yousaf began his career in documentary but quickly moved into drama. He has recently completed his first feature ALMOST ADULT (2006) written by writer Rona Munro (Ladybird Ladybird) and produced by Sally Hibbin (Parallax Independent). He also wrote and directed two multi award winning shorts SKIN DEEP (Winner of 7 international awards) and TALKING WITH ANGELS (Winner of 18 international awards); both of which also received BAFTA nominations.
He has a number of projects in development. One is a coming of age story about the experiences of a disenfranchised Asian teenager growing up post 9/11 Britain. It is being developed in conjunction with the ARISTA SCRIBES scheme; an initiative of Capitol Films Production, BBC Films and Arista Development, with the assistance of the National Lottery through the UK Film Council.
Another is a co-development with Maori writer Kathryn Akuhata-Brown. Set in New Zealand; it is a road movie about an old Maori woman who after a lifetime away, wants to return to her community to die.
Although Yousaf is a writer/director, he is also very interested in collaborating with other writers on project that he would direct.
