Sophie graduated from RADA in 1991 and works as an actor in theatre, film, television and radio. Her first full length play Cariad was performed at the Tristan Bates Theatre in 2005 and is being produced by Clwyd Theatr Cymru, January-February 2008. She was selected as one of "the 50 most promising writers", a BBC/ Royal Court initiative. Sophie has been commissioned by the BBC and Channel Four. She is currently writing her second play Where Corals Lie for the Bush Theatre.
"Cariad is supremely well written... a compelling story about secrets, memory, history and 'cariad'.... Stanton's writing has a crisp, spikey verve... Her fluent, assured writing, humming with alliteration, is impressive enough. That she also turns in a raw, winning performance as the scarred, wickedly funny Blodwen marks her out as a formidable talent and a name to watch." The Times.
"A moving examination of the ways in which mothers mangle their daughters' lives, and how other people can rescue us from our families." Guardian.
"A delicious mulch of mixed metaphors, malapropisms and sheer absurdism, Sophie Stanton's masterful and comic script demonstrates a sharp ear for non-sequential dialogue and a witty, playful approach to language." The Stage.
"This is indeed a fine, complex, and deeply funny play." My London Your London.
