Dominic Mitchell

Dominic has recently been chosen of one of The Twelve, the Royal Exchange Manchester's new writing scheme. He has also been chosen as participant for the North West in the BBC's Northern Voices programme. 

 

This year Dominic's short play The Parrallel of Paul was on at Theatre 503. He also recently won the Paptango script Competition with his darkly comic play Potentials which has received a great response at the Tristan Bates theatre.

 He is also working with Gilt and Grime and the Oval House Youth Theatre on new plays. His short play Kernow Bys Vyken, written and performed at Shakespeare’s Globe, is currently being adapted for the screen.

 

Last year Dominic was attached to the Paines Plough / Channel Four scheme Future Perfect ‘08 through which he developed his play The New Age, and was invited to attend the advanced playwrighting course at RADA led by playwright Stephen Jeffery’s. He also wrote a piece for Theatre 503's Urban Scrawl project and developed two new full length plays The Captors and The New Age, both supported by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation.

 

In 2007 Dominic was one of four writers’ chosen to be attached to Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s first ever new writers’ programme. The attachment was lead by playwright Kaite O Reilly.

 

 His short play No. 30 to Pluto was joint winner of the Churchill Theatre's New Writing competition and was performed on the main stage as part of their 30th Birthday Gala celebrations.

 

He was one of three writers commissioned by Company of Angels in association with Soho Theatre and Drama Centre to write a one act play for young people. The play How To Draw A Perfect Circle was performed at Soho Theatre in May 2007.

 

In 2006 he was writer on attachment at Polka Theatre. That same year two of his one act plays, Acquaintances and National Amnesty, were produced and performed at Pleasance Theatre, Islington.

 

Dominic has attended the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, led by Simon Stephens and the Soho Theatres Young Writer Programme led by Georgina Fitch.

 

His plays have been read and performed at various London venues including: Trafalgar Studios, Hampstead Theatre, Barons Court Theatre and the Young Vic. 

 

Dominic studied Film and Video Production at the University College for the Creative Arts.  There he wrote and directed over ten short films. One of the scripts he wrote while at university, Kinks, was shortlisted for the Marchont Pictures Short Film prize.
