Jeremy Raison

Jeremy works in film, television and theatre.

 

Jeremy made his first film Small Moments, as a winner of the inaugural Antonine Eight and Half scheme. Showings include festivals in Kyiv, and Marrakech, where it was nominated for a Golden Star Best Film Award. It was also runner up in the Reel to Reel Best International Short Film Awards. The film was promoted by Scottish Screen and the British Council as part of their slates of best new work.

 

For television, Jeremy directed four episodes of EastEnders, following on from being selected for the BBC’s prestigious Director’s Training Course.

 

Jeremy is currently Artistic Director of the Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow, where his credits include his own versions of Don Juan (‘A Citizens’ Classic’ The Sunday Times) and Therese Raquin, alongside plays by Eugene O’Neill, Henrik Ibsen and Tennessee Williams. His most recent production, his adaptation of Ron Butlin’s seminal Scottish novel, The Sound of My Voice, is being revived for the second time for the Edinburgh Festival in 2009 as part of Made In Scotland.

 

Jeremy has an award-winning career in theatre, where his extensive credits as writer/director include work with Sir Dirk Bogarde, Zoe Wanamaker, Ralph Fiennes, Robert Carlyle, Jennifer Ehle, Alan Bates, Eileen Atkins, Shirley Henderson and many others.  He has directed more than thirty world premieres, as well as acclaimed classics, for the Royal National Theatre, for many companies in the UK, and in Denmark, Zimbabwe and Italy. Credits include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the West End, and Crush which he commissioned and which was subsequently filmed. Awards and nominations include: Manchester Evening News Best Touring Production for Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, the first ever TMA/Stage Award Outstanding Achievement in Theatre, Liverpool Post and Echo Best Production Award for Three Steps to Heaven, BBC Radio 4 Young Playwrights Award for his original play The Rain Gathering, Plays and Players’ Best Children’s Play Award for his adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
